My name is Anand Sharma. I respectfully ask for your vote for the Shrewsbury Select Board on Tuesday, May 5th. 

For over 25 years, my family and I have proudly called Shrewsbury home. We chose this town for its character, strong schools, and vibrant sense of community. Sadly, over time, we have witnessed rapid, poorly managed development that has overcrowded our schools, strained our budgets, worsened traffic, and steadily eroding the green space that defines our town's character.

As an Electrical Engineer with an MBA, currently working at MIT Lincoln Lab, I bring analytical thinking and sound financial judgment to policy-making. I will make informed and thoughtful decisions on behalf of the residents because I believe people must always come first. I am passionate about helping our seniors age in place with dignity. I will advocate for programs and tax relief to support those who helped build this community.

Growing up in a poor farming family was challenging, but through hard work, resiliency, and support from my community, I persevered. Those experiences shaped my gratitude, fiscal responsibility, and deep commitment to giving back. I spend many hours volunteering with the Spirit of Shrewsbury, the Rotary Club, FIA, the 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee, and many more.

I have not hesitated to stand up when it mattered. I spent a lot of time speaking against the Beal Deal decision, the MBTA zoning plan that led to reduced affordable housing & tax revenue, and the GFI warehouses proposal over town aquifers that could jeopardize our water quality. Last year, I stood with the Shrewsbury community, voting overwhelmingly against the poorly planned and overpriced DPW building.

I am all for sustained development and support the moratorium in overlay districts to slow development and properly assess impacts on infrastructure, traffic, schools, public services, and, most importantly, the quality of life for existing residents.

As your next Select Board member, I will be Fiscally Conservative and provide Responsible Leadership and Transparent Governance.

• More Public Recreational Space for children – I will work to increase more public recreational space for children's overall development.

• Responsible Development :

Raised concerns about the MBTA Communities Zoning Plan, emphasizing that the revised proposal reduced affordable housing opportunities.

Backed a temporary zoning moratorium to allow the town time to evaluate development impacts and gather resident input.

• Environmental Protection:

Challenged the proposed warehouse project on the town aquifer, citing risks to drinking water quality and long-term environmental health.

• Transparent and Accessible Town Governance: 

Promoted the adoption of electronic voting devices at Town Meeting to strengthen accuracy, transparency, and public trust.

• Fiscal Responsibility:

Questioned the cost and scope of the DPW and Town Hall renovation project, advocating for more financially responsible alternatives.
